Falls Management for Older Adults (FAME)

What is FAME?

FAME (Falls Management Exercise) is a specialist, research-backed exercise programme designed to reduce the risk of falls and help older adults regain strength, balance, and confidence.

Used by the NHS across the UK, FAME is proven to improve mobility, coordination, bone health, and quality of life — whether you’re looking to stay active or recovering after a fall.

FAME: Strength, Balance & Confidence for Life

Helping Older Adults Stay Independent, Active and Safer

FAME is tailored for older adults of all abilities. With a focus on injury prevention, strength building, and mobility, it’s a safe, supportive way to stay active — no matter where you’re starting from.

Whether you’re feeling less steady on your feet, recovering from illness, or simply want to feel stronger and more in control, this programme is here to help.

What to Expect in a FAME Class

Each session is 60 minutes, carefully structured and based on 7 core components. Exercises are always adjusted to your needs, with support every step of the way.

  • Chairs are available for stability, but standing is actively encouraged to help improve balance and strength.
  • We begin with a warm-up to boost circulation and gently mobilise joints.
  • This moves into dynamic endurance exercises, followed by a short cool down.
  • Next comes our balance training, where you’ll build confidence from your current level at a pace that’s right for you.
  • We follow with seated strength work, focusing on muscles used in daily life.
  • A key part of the session is our floor work, tailored for all abilities — whether you’re new to it or comfortable on the floor.

We finish with a relaxing stretch and adapted Tai Chi to leave you calm, centred, and refreshed.
